Social Studies: Write a letter home to a family member
-you will take on the point of view of a:
-Chinese immigrant
-First Nations people
-European settlers
You will be writing a letter of a family member, and will write about your experience with the CPR railway or with immigrating here to Canada, and life in the west.
Things to consider including in your letter home:
-are you working on the CPR railway?
-location – where are you?
-how is the CPR railway effecting you?
-safety concerns, lifestyle working for the CPR
-what it is like to work on the railroad
-what is it like as an immigrant?
-what was it like to travel here?
-challenges and benefits
Your letter needs to be:
-1 page long (single spaced).
-written in pencil (or typed for those using computers)
-written in paragraphs
-checked for spelling, capital letters, punctuation
-descriptive and detailed; the reader should have a real understanding of what your life is like
-think about using your 5 senses to help add description
-use the 5 w’s to make sure all important information is included.
